Is building a wall the answer?

America is known for its opportunities and the diversity from immigrants all over the world. People come the United States for opportunities for a better life. By building a wall to make a barrier for immigrants to stay out is probably not the best way to do so. Yes, some immigrants can bring problems with them when they cross the country but that does not mean all immigrants are bad. We live in a diverse world and everybody has a different background and different view of points and it will only get worse because of how we lean towards a universal economy. Keeping them out and separating them will not solve anything. Maybe its time we gather around and understand the different.
Not only the wall will separate and make a barrier for the people, but it will also have an effect on the environment where they will be building the wall. The wall might have to be building on a National Wildlife refuge destroying the wildlife that lives in the area. The wall that separates the border currently is about 2000 miles that blocks people to get though. There is no fencing about 1300 miles due to having Rio Grande forming a natural border. However the river can be crossed in many different ways. But by building a wall in a river can be a cause for flooding and other natural disasters.

The funding for the wall can be another problem. The white house has requested 1.6 billion dollars to build a 74 miles boarder wall to start with. Over all they are looking around 18 billion for a wall covering 722 miles. To spend 18 billion on a wall looks like a big risk to take for the government. They might be looking too narrow on the problem we face today in the United States. There are other options to spend such money, such as medical issues and much more. Building a wall and shutting people out is not the only solution we have. Shutting people out of our country will somewhat influence others thoughts on how they see America all together.  Some immigrants and having such diversity can somewhat cause problems but maybe it is because we all label them the way we do. Why stop labeling and comparing them and just see them as individuals.

On February 22, 2018, The New York Times published an article titled “Let teachers Teach.” In this article, it mentions how trump calls for “highly trained” schoolteachers so they can fire back at school shooters. The editor was making a point on how that might cause more problems and is not the best way to solve the problem we have now. I agree to the author, as to how this is the wrong way to prevent and solve the problem. It will be hard for teachers to be highly trained to handle guns due to population on how many teachers the country will have to train to start with. If they were to be trained to react in a situation as the article says, teachers are still humans they will probably be in fear as the same for anyone else therefore it will be hard react to a stressful situations. In addition, the article mentioned on how highly trained police officers could still miss their target in a stressful situation. If there were more people getting involved with weapons in a stressful situation, it might increase wounded victims in the process of everyone trying to take down a gunman while there are still a lot of students around.
My opinion is to not have weapons at all. The country I grew up in, Japan, has a very strict gun law and we have no problems at all as to what we see here in the states. Guns can be something to protect yourself with but it can do harm and it can lead to gun shooting when it gets in the wrong hands.

On February 09 2018, Los Angles Times Published an article titled “Trump signs bipartisan budget deal, ending brief government shutdown.” On the article that caught my eyes was the saying by trump, “Our military will now be stronger than before.” “Also means JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!” It seems like Trump is putting effort into military and more job opportunities, which I think is great. But he is also ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program issued under Obama. It is a program for Dreamers including 700,000 immigrants. I think one of the good parts of America is that it has its diversity. People from around the world with different culture and background gather here in America for opportunities. By ending this program it will be harder on the immigrants that is looking for opportunities for better lives and cutting off support for young adults that is going to be the future of us is not the best decision to make. I think that we should understand and give in the difference in people with different culture and background and not stereotype, because after all everybody is different.
