On February 22, 2018, The New York Times published an article titled “Let teachers Teach.” In this article, it mentions how trump calls for “highly trained” schoolteachers so they can fire back at school shooters. The editor was making a point on how that might cause more problems and is not the best way to solve the problem we have now. I agree to the author, as to how this is the wrong way to prevent and solve the problem. It will be hard for teachers to be highly trained to handle guns due to population on how many teachers the country will have to train to start with. If they were to be trained to react in a situation as the article says, teachers are still humans they will probably be in fear as the same for anyone else therefore it will be hard react to a stressful situations. In addition, the article mentioned on how highly trained police officers could still miss their target in a stressful situation. If there were more people getting involved with weapons in a stressful situation, it might increase wounded victims in the process of everyone trying to take down a gunman while there are still a lot of students around.
My opinion is to not have weapons at all. The country I grew up in, Japan, has a very strict gun law and we have no problems at all as to what we see here in the states. Guns can be something to protect yourself with but it can do harm and it can lead to gun shooting when it gets in the wrong hands.
